FRIENDS OF BICESTER NORTH STATION
NEXT WORK SESSION: TO BE ADVISED. Sign in and register your car, ensure you know the safety briefing before commencing work.
We have been born from Green Gym to tend a neglected flower bed on Platform 2. Chiltern Railways approached us and work began in February 2018.
Bicester North station was established in 1910 and the latest upgrades happened in 2011 – so 7 years of neglect have set in on this long narrow strip of a bed, as the picture shows!
As of December 2018, the bed has been weeded, water butts installed, shed and tools set up, hi-vis jackets and leaflets ordered and a Christmas tree put up in the ticket office! It seems like progress has been slow in 2018 but when we look back, a lot has been done. This year we hope to really get going with new planting, proper signage and a dedicated website!
The project has already been supported financially and with goods by Wyevale Garden Centre, Bicester Village (Value Retail), Cherwell District Council and Bicester Town Council, but further sponsorship will be needed next year!
We are now looking for new volunteers and perhaps a different day to work. So if you or your business would like to try a work session, or for sponsorship, please get in touch!
