FRIENDS OF BICESTER NORTH STATION

Choked with weeds in Feb 2018

We are starting a new venture borne from Green Gym to tend a neglected flower bed on Platform 2. Chiltern Railways approached us and work began in February 2018.

Bicester North station was established in 1910 and the latest upgrades happened in 2011 – so 7 years of neglect have set in on this long narrow strip of a bed, as this picture shows!

Tea break is a prominent feature of any work session.

Making a meandering path

Plans are to put in Mediterranean style planting and a meandering path, with additional seasonal plantings. Weeding and digging has begun but the long dry summer and the loss of Wyevale Garden Centre, plus trying to get permission from Network Rail to install items, has slowed things down.

The project has already been supported financially and with goods by Wyevale Garden Centre, Bicester Village (Value Retail), Cherwell District Council and Bicester Town Council, but further sponsorship will be needed next year!

We are now looking for new volunteers and perhaps a different day to work, also ideas for a logo to go on all publicity and hi-vis jackets.

So if you or your business would like to try a work session, you feel creative with a logo, or for sponsorship, please get in touch!
